A Queensland family has been reunited with their beloved pet dog after it was stolen in a horrifying ordeal last week.

Phoenix the merle border collie was sitting in the back of her family ute in Townsville when her owners were allegedly attacked and the car stolen.

Police said the 43-year-old car owner and her 17-year-old daughter were allegedly assaulted by a man and a woman about 4pm on Thursday.

Their black Ford Ranger was then stolen, along with Phoenix in the back seat.

The woman and her daughter were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A man and a woman were arrested at Rasmussen on Friday, but Phoenix and the ute were nowhere to be found.

Police launched a public appeal to find the precious pet.

Later that day, police said Phoenix had been found in Kelso, along with the stolen car.

Police released body camera footage of officers entering a garage and coaxing the terrified dog out from under the stolen car.

A 29-year-old Rasmussen man was charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count each of unlicensed driving, robbery, and stealing.

A 28-year-old Oonoonba woman was charged with common assault.

The matters are now before the courts.

Police and the family thanked the community for their assistance, which police said greatly helped officers to find Phoenix.

Phoenix was reunited with her family on Saturday.
